Car-nage
Driving standards in Turkey, it's fair to say, are shocking. Recently it was reported that a man had taken the driving test for several other would-be licence holders and was arrested and sent to court. How many of these impostors, however, are actually caught is debatable. Maybe a lot of drivers simply don't have a licence. This week an idiot came off the road from our village to Tire. His car plunged down a six-foot embankment. He was lucky. At other sections of the road the drop is 40 to 50 feet. No one knows if he is hurt because he fled the scene. The suspicion has to be that he was under the influence.
You take your life in your hands every time you get behind the wheel, which is why I drive very defensively. I would say I have two or three "near misses" every day. Turkey has many positives but unfortunately driving is not one of them.
